The 2022 NHL preseason is officially in full force, and last night there were several more games for fans to take in.
One of them was the up-and-coming New Jersey Devils opening up their preseason against a rebuilding Montreal Canadiens club. Although this game was filled with young talent, it was an odd injury that was one of the main talking points.
After having 6:24 of ice time in the 1st period, Devils captain Nico Hischier did not join his team for the second period, leading to this announcement from the Devils quickly following:
''Nico Hischier will not return to tonight's game due to cramping. The medical staff will work on him but are keeping him out as a precaution.''
While other sports are notorious for cramps, it's a very rare occurrence in the NHL. Given that this is the preseason, it's likely the Devils weren't taking any chances with their young captain.
