The last time a woman did the same thing Eve Gascon is about to do was during the 1999-2000 season.
It's been more than two decades since a female hockey player last suited up in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, let alone the Canadian Hockey League.
This afternoon, 18-year-old goaltender Eve Gascon will put an end to the long-awaited return of a female player in Quebec's junior hockey circuit by playing in nets for the Gatineau Olympiques.
By doing so, Gascon becomes just the third female to play in a QMJHL regular season game. The only two other women to do so - both goaltenders - were Manon Rhéaume (1990-91) and Charline Labonté (1999-00).
Rhéaume became famous just a few years later by becoming the first woman to ever suit up in an NHL game after being given a chance by then Tampa Bay Lightning GM and Bruins legend, Phil Esposito.
We wish Eve all the best as she gets set to face the Rimouski Oceanic for her historical debut!
