Bruce Cassidy's troops have unquestionably been one of the NHL's hottest teams for a few weeks now. The Bruins (38-19-5) sit just two points back of the Toronto Maple Leafs for third spot in the Atlantic Division and have a firm hold on the current wild card race.
Sure, the B's have gotten solid contributions from star players such as Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak in March, but it's the team's unlikely heroes that have really stepped their games up.
Boston's third line in particular has came through clutch on numerous occasions. The trio, comprised of centreman Charlie Coyle and wingers Trent Frederic and Craig Smith has been red-hot.
As a matter of fact, prior to last night's game Smith and Frederic had scored the most points for the Bruins this month. Coyle joined them after a stellar three-assitst showing agaisnt the Jets.
Frederic (2G-7A) has now notched nine points since March 1, which trails only Coyle's ten points (2G-8A) and Smith's (8G-3A) eleven for the most by a Bruins player this month.
It'll be interesting to see if Don Sweeney pulls off any transactions ahead of Monday's trade deadline and how those moves would shake-up the actual roster.
One can only assume that the G.M. won't be inclined to modify his current third line by adding any newcomer before next week.
