Sad news, as a former second-round pick has retired from pro hockey due to personal reasons.

Being drafted into the NHL is just the first of many steps to making hockey players' dreams come true, which was the case for 25-year-old Brendan Guhle, who was selected 51st overall by the Buffalo Sabres in 2015.

As per German sports media site EIS Hockey News:

(translated from German)

''The Eisbären Berlin (PENNY DEL) announced on Tuesday that defender Brendan Guhle has decided to end his active professional career for personal reasons with immediate effect. The Canadian only moved to Berlin from the Anaheim Ducks organization in the summer.''

Guhle was with the German club Eisbären Berlin of DEL this season and played just seven games before returning to North America. The defenseman was out long-term with an injury prior to his first game.

After being drafted in the second round by the Sabres, the Edmonton native was traded (with a first-round pick) to the Anaheim Ducks for Brandon Montour at the 2019 Trade Deadline.

He primarily played for San Diego of the AHL, as injuries derailed his progress with both the Sabres and Ducks organizations. He had three goals and four assists in 37 games with San Diego last season and did not register a point in six NHL games.
