In what is turning out to be the most ''under the radar'' signing of the offseason, the Boston Bruins have found a gem in the undrafted Luke Toporowski.
Toporowski came to the Bruins Rookie Camp on an invitee basis and instantly stood out. Because of that, the forward earned himself a two-year AHL contract in Providence, and now he's making an early case for Rookie of the Year.
The 21-year-old recently recorded his first career professional hat trick against the Syracuse Crunch (see below), helping him jump up the rookie scoring race.
Toporowski is now fourth with 18 points for rookie skaters and second in goals with 9 goals. The Idaho native's offensive skills have translated perfectly from the WHL to the AHL and, let's hope, someday to the NHL.
The Bruins have Toporowski's signing rights until January 1st, and after that, any team can offer him a contract with Boston having the chance to match.
