Vegas Golden Knights' captain Mark Stone spent most of the 2021-22 NHL on the long-term injured reserve, playing only 37 games.
The captain had 9 goals and 21 assists for 30 points on the season, missing chunks of time due to injuries. Vegas went 12-13-1 when Stone missed 26 games with a back injury from February 9th to April 9th. He returned down the stretch when his team fought for a postseason berth. However, he had just one assist in the final eight games, as Vegas missed the playoffs for the first time since joining the NHL as an expansion team in 2017-18.
Stone underwent a successful lumbar discectomy, which is surgery to remove a herniated or degenerative disc in the lower spine. It's a common but major surgery with significant risks and potential complications such as nerve injury or paralysis.
It's good news that Mark Stone is expected to be ready for the start of the 2022-23 NHL regular season.
