As per NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the Carolina Hurricanes have given restricted free agent Ethan Bear permission to speak with other teams.

The 24-year-old defenseman was acquired from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for forward Warren Foegele last summer.

Bear was a regular with the Oilers during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons, appearing in 114 games. With the Hurricanes last season, he recorded 5 goals and 9 assists and only dressed in 58 games. A battle with COVID and its side effects ended Bear's season early as he also didn't play in any of Carolina's 14 postseason games.

An offer sheet for Ethan Bear would be in the range of $2 to $2.2 million, and the compensation would be a third-round draft pick.

Would the right-shot defenseman be worth the offer sheet with Charlie McAvoy missing until at least November or December?
