As you may know, Nathan MacKinnon surprised many fans last summer when he said he was willing to take a 'bargain on his next contract to stay with the Colorado Avalanche and allow them to go out and get more good players and win a championship.
Since the Avalanche's recent Stanley Cup win, MacKinnon seems to have completely changed his mind, and he appears to be on his way to signing the most lucrative contract in NHL history, and deservedly so.
Avalanche insider Adrian Dater has reported just what the number may be:
''My prediction of the annual value of Nathan MacKinnon's next contract: $14.5 million''
The 27-year-old recorded 88 points in 65 games last season, along with 24 more in 20 postseason games on the way to his first Stanley Cup championship.
