Longtime NHL goaltender Ben Bishop recently retired due to lingering injuries.
Originally selected in the third round (85th overall) by the St. Louis Blues in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, he appeared in 413 NHL games with the Blues, Ottawa Senators, Tampa Bay Lightning, Los Angeles Kings and the Dallas Stars. His contract was traded to the Buffalo Sabres on June 10th in exchange for future considerations.
The three-time Vezina finalist finished with a career 2.32 GAA, .921 SV% and 33 shutouts. At 35 years old, Bishop was forced to retire on December 21st, 2021, due to a degenerative knee injury.
However, the former top goaltender has found a way to stay in the NHL. Saad Yousuf of The Athletic was one of the first to report:
''Jim Nill announced today that Ben Bishop has been hired as player development coordinator, and Sam Lites has been named director of organizational analysis.''
