Spending the last few seasons in Arizona after being traded from the Pittsburgh Penguins, Phil Kessel has now hit free agency for the first time in his career.

The veteran had 8 goals and 52 points in 82 games last season for the low-scoring Coyotes.

Kurt Leavins of The Athletic has reported that Kessel and the Edmonton Oilers have mutual interest and could possibly be close to a deal.

According to Jeff Marek on the 32 Thoughts podcast with Elliotte Friedman, there may be mutual interest between Kessel and the Edmonton Oilers general manager Ken Holland.

''He'd score there; there's no denying that.''

Kessel thrived playing along elite centers in Pittsburgh like Crosby and Malkin, and if he signs in Edmonton, he will have two of the best players in the league to play alongside in Draisaitl and McDavid.

The Oilers feel they are close to being a championship team, and adding a Phil Kessel to your lineup wouldn't hurt your chances.
