The Colorado Avalanche and Edmonton Oilers lived up to the hype leading up to their Western Conference Final with an absolutely wild first period. Capped off by a controversial offside call to end the period.

It was ruled onside on the ice, and Edmonton was very quick to challenge, but after a lengthy review, it was still deemed offside.

You be the judge:

The ruling is that Cale Makar pushed the puck ahead and didn't touch it while his teammate was leaving the zone. Which is true, but at the same time, it seems like possession the whole time. A grey area, but fans have been left baffled by calls all postseason long.

Maybe it was a little karma for the Oilers after the Flames disallowed kicking goal!

Here's another angle of the play:

The Avalanche also scored on the powerplay for the Oilers failed challenge to go up 4-2.
