The captain had quite the night to remember!

Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins had a historic night in his club's 5-0 victory over the visiting Buffalo Sabres.

Bergeron came into the night with 397 career goals in the NHL, all with the Bruins, who he's spent the past 18 seasons with.

Boston fans knew that he was close to the 400-goal milestone and that there was a good chance they'd have to wait until maybe next season to see it happen.

Bergy decided to give Bruins fans a little extra to cheer about in the final home game of the regular season.

Bergeron scored Boston's first two goals of the game for numbers 398 and 399 of his career. Heading into the third, all Bruins fans watched in anticipation to see if the captain could score number 400 in dramatic style, with a hat-trick.

With time running out, Bergeron scored his third goal of the game and 400th of his career with just over two minutes remaining in the third period.

Head coach Bruce Cassidy commented on what transpired late in the game:

"It's funny, I put him [Bergeron] out there for the draw and said, "Listen, if it doesn't happen [hat-trick] here quick, let's get off [the ice], we don't wanna wear you out," ... There's two minutes to go in the game, so, it happened quick, I'm happy for him, good for him."

Bergeron finished the night with three goals and one assist and, of course, with goal number 400 of his career. With it, he becomes just the fourth Bruin all-time to score 400 goals, all with the franchise, and probably the first to do it in grand style with a hatty.
