The Minnesota Wild hosted the St. Louis Blues in game one of their Western Conference Quarterfinals last night.

Although it was one of the most anticipated matchups heading into the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Blues made sure the home crowd in Saint Paul had nothing to cheer about. Minnesota outshot St. Louis 37-31 but lost the game by a score of 4-0. David Perron scored a hat-trick while goaltender Ville Husso recorded a shutout in his first career postseason start.

The Wild players were visibly frustrated in the game as they couldn't find the back of the net. Minnesota captain Jared Spurgeon took out his frustration on Blues forward Pavel Buchnevich with around two minutes remaining in the game.

Watch the play here:

Spurgeon maliciously cross-checked Buchnevich's ankle into the ice when both players were on their knees. The Blues forward appeared no worse for wear after the play, but the NHL Player Safety Department is obviously investigating the play, as it was a clear intent to injure.
