One of the NHL's best players is on his way to being paid like one.
The Colorado Avalanche and Nathan MacKinnon's camp have reportedly recently met to discuss a new contract extension to start in the 2023-24 season.

According to Avalanche insider Adrian Dater, MacKinnon and his camp are looking to make the superstar the highest-paid player in the NHL. The current is Edmonton Oilers captain Connor MacDavid, who has an AAV of $12.5 million.

As per Dater, shared by @avsinsider on Instagram:

''Chris MacFarland and Joe Sakic have met with MacKinnon's camp to discuss a new contract and Sakic says it's a priority for this off-season.

Nathan MacKinnon would become the highest paid player in the NHL with an AAV of 12.5M or higher.''

Dater thinks MacKinnon will get $14 million yearly for eight years.
