When the 2022-23 NHL season starts, the Boston Bruins will be without three key players, including Brad Marchand, Charlie McAvoy and Matthew Grzelcyk.
Marchand had offseason surgery on both hips, McAvoy on his left shoulder and Grzelcyk on his right shoulder. Grzelcyk is expected to be back in November, while both Marchand and McAvoy have an expected recovery timeline of around six months, putting their return to late November/early December.
General Manager Don Sweeney on his club's injuries:
''With the injuries, I think there is a heck of an opportunity for somebody to emerge and create internal competition.''
It also will mean that the Bruins will have to weather the storm over the first two to three months of the season to keep their chances of making the playoffs alive. A rough start in an Atlantic Division that saw weaker teams immensely improve could end their chances before their stars even return.
