Today is a special day in Boston Bruins franchise history, as 20 years ago today, the club made a significant announcement.
On October 8th, 2002, the Bruins named Joe Thornton the 24th team captain in franchise history. ''Jumbo Joe'' took over the captaincy from Jason Allison, who held it for just one season, 2000-01. He would wear the ''C'' for two full seasons before being traded to the San Jose Sharks during the 2005-06 campaign.
