On this day 11 years ago (May 17th, 2011), a Bruins rookie tied an NHL playoff record for most points in a period by a teenager.
Boston Bruins forward Tyler Seguin tied the record held solely by Trevor Linden, who did the same for the Vancouver Canucks in 1989.
Seguin scored 2 goals and added 2 assists in the second period in game two of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Bruins were down 2-1 heading into the second when Seguin scored 48 seconds into the period and added his second of the game just over five minutes later. Seguin would assist on both of Michael Ryder's goals near the end of the second period as well, tying the NHL record.
Seguin was a healthy scratch for the first two rounds of the playoffs that season before getting a shot in the lineup because both Marc Savard and Patrice Bergeron suffered concussions.
Boston would end up winning the game 6-5 and the series four games to three, advancing to the Stanley Cup Final against the Vancouver Canucks. We all know what happened next as the Bruins won their sixth Stanley Cup in franchise history.
