Currently, one of the NHL's 2023 top prospects is making the headlines, but not for the reasons he would like.
Today, it appeared that top prospect Matvei Michkov suffered what could be a significant knee injury.
During KHL action, Michkov carried the puck into the offensive zone toward former Montreal Canadiens defenseman Alexei Emelin. He attempts to make a move, and Emelin closes the gap and delivers a bit hit. The principal point of contact is the shoulder, but as the larger Emelin pushes through, the two players' legs collide.
After the collision, Michkov's knee straightens and bends awkwardly. Michkov immediately fell to the ice and was in significant pain. Michkov eventually made his way to the bench, but he did not return to the game.
A camera captured Michkov limping out of the arena with his knee wrapped up and headed to the hospital for an MRI.
