Patrice Bergeron is arguably the most well-respected man in the NHL and since becoming captain of the Boston Bruins, has proved he's the definition of the ultimate leader.
A recent story from head coach Jim Montgomery perfectly exemplifies just what Bergeron means to the Bruins, and how far he goes for his teammates. As per Ty Anderson:
Montgomery says there's been a lot of times this season where he's gone to talk to a player about how they're doing mentally and asking where they're at and the player says 'Patrice actually talked to me about this, so I'm feeling better already.''
Montgomery shared how his captain has helped immensely when it comes to players' mental health, as he's become somewhat of the team 'therapist''.
Anderson also asked Bergeron about helping out his coach in that aspect:
''I think it's always been important. I think it's become, I guess, a lot more part of a coach's responsibility than it used to be. There used to be the old adage, players gotta figure it out. Like, 'You're not playing; figure it out. You are playing more; figure it out.'' I think more now - - and I've always been like this as a coach - - is I try and always give feedback as to why they're not playing as much or why they're playing more so that they replicate those habits and you know why you're getting rewarded with good ice. Hopefully that's going to encourage you to play the way that you've been playing to get that good ice.''
The 37-year-old, who has been the captain in Boston since 2020-21, is still bringing it on the ice too. Bergeron currently has 24 goals and 25 assists through 65 games this season.
