The Boston Bruins received good news Monday, as number one defenseman Charlie McAvoy participated in full-team practice and wore a full-contact sweater for the first time since undergoing offseason shoulder surgery.

However, the Bruins have $8,137,500 of cap space currently, and will need to add McAvoy's $9.5 million to the books once he comes back. This would put the club $1,362.500 over the salary cap ceiling.

Recent rumours are that trade talks between the Bruins and other teams have intensified regarding their cap space situation.

As per Dominic Tiano of OHL Writers:

Phone calls and talks have ''intensified'' for #NHLBruins looking to move out cap space in preparation for a Charlie McAvoy return.

But who will general manager Don Sweeney be looking to ship out of Boston?

Earlier reports were that the Bruins were testing the market on forward Craig Smith, and defenseman Mike Reilly was placed on waivers at the beginning of the season and is currently in the AHL. Smith is in the last year of his contract, which pays him $3.1 million per season, while Reilly has two years left at $3 million.
