Last season, Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price showed that he truly was a warrior.

The veteran checked himself into the Players Assistance Program early last season as he battled through substance abuse issues. Upon completing the program, Price fought through a gruelling recovery to get back into the NHL.

Price was able to get into five games and ultimately won his final appearance on April 29th against the Florida Panthers. Price stopped 39 of 41 shots that night for the victory. Now it appears that could be his last NHL game.

Today Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes released the following news, as reported by Sportsnet's Chris Johnston:

''Montreal Canadiens GM Kent Hughes says he doesn't see a path for Carey Price to return and play during the 2022-23 season.''

Price had reportedly been undertaking Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments, which is often the last resort for many athletes trying to prolong their careers. Unfortunately, it appears these treatments haven't worked for Price.

If Carey Price's career is over, he will go down as one of the most talented goaltenders of his generation. But ultimately, his quality of life post-career is far more important at this point.
