The Chicago Blackhawks have definitely taken an interesting route to start their current rebuild.
Instead of trading veterans like Jonathan Toews (34) and Patrick Kane (33), who both make $10.5 million a year and are unrestricted free agents after next season.
Instead, the club traded Alex DeBrincat (24) to the Ottawa Senators and Kirby Dach (21) to the Montreal Canadiens. They also decided not to qualify RFA forwards Dylan Strome (25) and Dominik Kubalik (26).
The Athletic's Mark Lazerus, who covers the Blackhawks, has reported that Patrick Kane is furious with the way the organization's recent decisions:
As per @nhlbreakers on Instagram:
''The Blackhawks are completely dismantling their roster, and the next domino to fall will likely be Patrick Kane.
Blackhawks insider Mark Lazerus reports that people close to Kane say he'll be gone by the trade deadline at the latest, and that Kane is 'furious'' with the recent decisions.
Elliotte Friedman specifically mentions the Colorado Avalanche as a team that would be interested in acquiring Kane with salary retained. 👀''
