Former NHL defenseman John-Michael Liles was recently on Spittin' Chiclets with Ryan Whitney and Paul Bissonnette and he discussed his former teammate Phil Kessel.
Both Liles and Kessel are former Boston Bruins, but they were only teammates with the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2011 to 2014, and Liles revealed some hilarious stories about his former teammate.
Apparently, Kessel once refused to do the team weigh-in for head coach Randy Carlyle, and Liles tells the story:
Of course, Kessel isn't known for being the most athletic-looking NHL player, and it's clearly because of his love of soda:
From refusing to participate in team weigh-in to drinking soda instead of water, it hasn't stopped Kessel from being one of the most productive scorers over the past 15 years. The veteran has 399 goals and 557 assists in 1,204 career games. He also has the longest active ironman streak of 982 consecutive games played, only seven behind Keith Yandle's NHL record.
