Ryan Dixon and Jason Bukala of Sportsnet joined to discuss possible destinations and trade proposals involving the Canucks captain.
With the Bruins being one of four teams in the mix, also including the Hurricanes, Canadiens and Red Wings.
Here's the writers' mock trade from the Bruins:
Boston receives: Bo Horvat and Aidan McDonough
Vancouver receives: Fabian Lysell, John Beecher, 2023 1st, 2023 6th
As per Dixon and Bukala:
Giving up Lysell and Beecher in an already weak prospect pool would be a tough pill to swallow but that's what it takes to win the Stanley Cup.
We know it's not going to be cheap for Don Sweeney and Co.; however, it might be worth it for a few reasons:
1) Horvat is a legit top-centre and will add even more scoring and depth to an already dominant Boston lineup.
2) The Bruins have had a history of signing newly acquired 'rentals'' to extensions (see Hampus Lindholm), and Horvat would make a perfect one or two centre for the coming years.
3) Locking up a pivot in Horvat could make David Pastrnak's decision to re-sign that much easier. Boston has enough coming off the books next season to afford both guys.
Horvat, 27, has 21 goals and nine assists in 31 games this season. He carries a $5.5 million cap hit for the remainder of the season.
McDonaugh, 23, is a Massachusetts native who currently has 23 points in 17 games with Northeastern University.
