Coming into game three, the Hurricanes had beaten the Bruins four straight games and outscored them by a score of 26-4.
The Bruins came out with a massive 4-2 win on home ice in game three and looked like a completely different team compared to the first two games of the series. Putting "The Perfection" line back together was maybe the most crucial part of helping the Bruins get the win.
Most importantly, a struggling Boston powerplay scored two goals while on the man advantage last night against the number one ranked penalty kill in the NHL. The penalty kill for the Bruins was also crucial as it killed all five powerplays against.
Although special teams helped them win, forward David Pastrnak discussed the team's main mindset that helped them win:
The Bruins' entire mindset seemed to change in-game three, and it was noticeable on the ice. But that wasn't the only thing that changed in their game three win over the Hurricanes.
A little bit of bad luck was involved in the first two games:
Prior to game three, the Carolina Hurricanes were shooting 17% in the series, while the Boston Bruins were shooting just 4.1%. To put that into a little easier perspective, the best team shooting percentage in the NHL during the 2022 regular season was 12.4%, and the worst was 8.2%. Of course, the Hurricanes' first two wins weren't only due to luck; they completely outplayed the Bruins in many moments of games one and two.
The home crowd obviously helped the club get back in this series. Watch David Pastrnak's entire post-game press conference here:
