The NHL free agent market had appeared to have somewhat slowed down over the past few weeks, but now it seems things are beginning to pick back up with several depth deals being signed.
With multiple players signing professional tryouts and, earlier today, veteran Sam Gagner signing with the Winnipeg Jets, the floodgates have appeared to have opened. Now, another former first-round draft pick has found a new home.
The Edmonton Oilers have signed D Ryan Murray to a 1-year contract worth $750k AAV
Murray was originally selected 2nd overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets after the Oilers picked Nail Yakupov first. At the time, there was a debate that the Oilers should pass on Yakupov and select Murray. Something they ultimately chose not to do.
Murray has played in 432 games for three different teams and has recorded 128 points in the span. Last season the defenseman played 37 regular season games for the Colorado Avalanche. Murray didn't appear in any playoff games after fracturing a bone in his arm/hand in March.
