The Boston Bruins have made a hire in the minor leagues, as Zach Tolkinen will be returning to the Maine Mariners.

This time, however, he will be returning to the ECHL as an Assistant coach. Tolkinen last played for the Mariners during the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 seasons with the ECHL team.

The Minnesota-born player scored 31 points in 105 games in the ECHL.

Mariners' current head coach Terence Walin is excited about the hire:

. «I'm excited to bring Tolks' on board as the new assistant coach. He was a leader and wore the C when we played together from 2018-2020, and we've always had a solid relationship. It's nice to bring a familiar face in who knows the league, has leadership qualities and, most importantly, knows the organization well.»

Tolkinen last held the Captaincy during his tenure with the Mariners, so it's unsurprisingly he'd bring those qualities back to the team.

He's expressed excitement to be back with the Mariners:

«Portland is a destination spot in this league with a great city, arena, and passionate fans. I'm so excited to be back with the Mariners and can't wait to get the season going!»

With these two leaders behind the bench, the Mariners should turn out better for these two being reunited in Portland, Maine.

The Bruins announced their extension with the ECHL club in April of 2023, with the term being two years.
