Two incidents were looked at by NHL Player Safety from the Boston Bruins and Carolina Hurricanes game that took place Sunday evening. Defensemen Charlie McAvoy of the Bruins and Brendan Smith of the Hurricanes were both handed fines for separate plays.

Charlie McAvoy was fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for Tripping Carolina's Brady Skjei.

Watch the play here:

Carolina's Brendan Smith was been fined $2,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for Elbowing Boston's David Pastrnak on this play:

The maximum allowable is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and is a percentage of the players' salary.

McAvoy has a cap hit of $4,900,00 while Smith's is only $800,000, so there's really nothing more to it than that. NHLPA and the players agreed for this to be the outcome of such events in the the CBA.

This all comes the same day that Nikita Zadorov faced absolutely no discipline for this hit to the head of Dallas Stars' forward Luke Glendening:
