The Florida Panthers are currently the number one team in the NHL, but last night the Boston Bruins played a complete game to defeat them by a score of 4-2.
Erik Haula has turned himself into a legitimate second-line NHL centre, and his stats since the March 21st Trade Deadline speak for themselves. Since the deadline when Haula was moved up to a line with Taylor Hall and David Pastrnak, he has 10 goals and 9 assists and is a +16 in 18 games.
Haula spoke on the change of mindset he had after being a healthy scratch earlier in the season:
"Going back to when I sat out that one game and just kind of started picking out a couple of things in my game that I wanted to focus on and kind of building from that. The defensive side of the puck was one of the things ... whatever it is, just little things I started picking out and focusing on, and I think that helped me."
Bruce Cassidy has found something special with the second line. Since March 21st, Haula, Hall and Pastrnak have combined for 24 goals, 25 assists and a +35 in 18 games (Pastrnak missed nine games). The line will be crucial in the postseason as a secondary offensive threat after the first line.
