With years of mediocrity for the Calgary Flames and basement-dwelling for the Edmonton Oilers, the rivals will meet in the postseason for the first time since 1991.
After the Flames' thrilling overtime win in game seven over the Dallas Stars, former Boston Bruin Milan Lucic was interviewed about the upcoming series. He spent three seasons with Edmonton prior to being traded to Calgary in the summer of 2019. Lucic was asked if he's excited to play against the Oilers and his good friend Connor McDavid to which he simply responded, "Uhhh, who?"
Of course, Looch was just having fun, but he also said he's taking experience from his days with the Boston Bruins:
He noted how the rivalry between Edmonton and Calgary has the same kind of hate that he felt when he was a Bruin playing against the Montreal Canadiens and all the heated playoff battles he was a part of.
If you didn't know, Calgary and Edmonton are both in the province of Alberta in Canada, and are only about a three-hour drive apart. There's plenty of star power on each team these days, too, with McDavid and Leon Draisaitl on the Oilers and Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk on the Flames.
