Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman made a surprising move yesterday when he placed forward Jakub Vrana on waivers.
After a stint in the NHLPA's Player Assistance Program, Vrana has recorded one goal and one assist. In 323 career games, Vrana has 91 goals and 98 assists.
Apparently, Detroit is attempting to make salary cap room for Robby Fabbri and Tyler Bertuzzi, and now they know whether Vrana was claimed or not.
As per Chris Johnston of TSN:
It's both surprising and not, that he wasn't claimed. Vrana is a top-six winger on almost any team in the NHL but it shows how strapped every team is to the cap.
