Jakob Chychrun has been the subject of countless rumours throughout the latter part of last season and most of the off-season. There appears to be a surprising team in the mix for the young defensemen's services.
According to Allan Mitchell of the Athletic, the Edmonton Oilers could be a dark horse in the Chychrun sweepstakes.
The Oilers have already upgraded their goaltending and their forward depth group; if they were to add a defensemen like Chychrun, where does that put them?
The 24-year-old played in just 47 games last year and collected 7 goals and 14 points for 21 points in a down year hampered by injuries. At a cap space of only $4.5 million for the next four years, Chychrun is one of those guys you give up a lot for.
The question I have is: how will the Oilers find the cap space? Certainly, something to keep an eye on.
