Swayman's agent is Lewis Gross who is a well-known agent throughout the NHL and general managers as he is considered one of the toughest to work with and has had high profile players sitting out portions of their season. The most famous player was Toronto Maple Leafs star William Nylander.
During the 2018-2019 season, then newly promoted general manager Kyle Dubas locked horns with Gross and saw Nylander miss over 20 games of the regular season and took Nylander to within 40 minutes of the deadline from being unable to play for the entire season.
The Leafs and Nylander settled on a contract which was a contentious subject for many Leafs fans for years afterwards. Swayman seems to be heading down the same road has many pundits wrote the NHL think he is going to achieve a large payday after taking his game to the next level during last years playoffs.
The Bruins have set aside $8.6 million of their cap space to show that they have money ready for Swayman. Many feel that he may be asking for more and recent numbers of 10 million per season has been mentioned and likely an 8-year deal. It may be a point of contention for the Bruins as they would not want to tie up that much money to one player especially a goaltender who's only had one off season of breakthrough play.
It's been a tough negotiation for Bruins president Cam Neely and general manager Don Sweeney but both men remain confident that a deal will be struck and he will attend camp starting in the middle of September.
