Boston Bruins organization and legend Bobby Orr made history on this day
The Boston Bruins organization and legendary defenseman both made history on this day in 1971.
On this day in 1971 Bobby Orr became the first ever player to sign a $1 million deal in NHL history, making it historical for himself and the Bruins organization.
It doesn't shock many that Bobby Orr was the first to be paid over $1 million with the type of player that he was. Orr's contract was a 5-year deal where he made $200k a year, that's a huge difference to players in today's game as some of them make 10x that.
Boston Bruins legendary defenseman's career was sadly cut short, but is still considered one of the best defenseman and players to ever play the game. In a total of 657 games, Orr had 270 goals, 645 assists for 915 points. Crazy numbers for a defenseman to be putting up and we may never see anything like this again.
