That is when the team should have a new contract for the superstar forward to sign before the NHL regular season begins.
Edmonton Oilers GM Stan Bowman is fast at working intending to extend Leon Draisaitl's contract into the future. The latest update regarding Bowman and Draisaitl's negotiations includes a deadline.
The reason? Draisaitl doesn't want negotiations to extend into the beginning of the season.
It had been reported ten days after the end of the season, Evan Bouchard, Draisaitl, and McDavid met with players on expiring contracts to see if they would take team-friendly deals. All in the manner of making sure the team can continue to build a Stanley Cup-winning roster.
Draisaitl's current cap hit is $8.5 Million AAV and is the final year of his eight-year contract. He has posted 100 or more points in five seasons and scored 50+ goals in three seasons during this time frame.
If the Oilers don't meet the deadline to extend Draisaitl should the Bruins step in and offer Draisaitl a contract next off-season?
It'd prove to be a huge coup in the NHL, and that is why the Bruins should do it.
