Anaheim Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek has been seeking out a trade to send Zegras out of his organization as he is looking for more leadership and more veteran presence on his roster.
The 23-year-old star Had a terrible season last year due to a variety of reasons including an injury that kept him from training camp and only allowed him to play 31 games during the season which produced 15 points. Zegras Has expressed that a change of scenery for his career maybe what's needed to get back on track.
With his diminished numbers, Verbeek still feels that he can get a substantial return. It's been widely reported that his asking price is very high, and he is not looking for a package of prospects and draft picks for this key asset. It's likely a roster player along with the first round and a top prospect may need to come to Anaheim as the team continues to rebuild.
Zegras is still under contract till 2026 and signed a three-year $17.25 million deal which holds a cap hit of 5.75 million. This factor will help make the trade as there is cost certainty for Zegras.
One thing for certain, a player like seagrass would certainly help the Bruins down the middle as this is one of the areas they are the weakest even with the addition of Elias Lindholm through free agency. Sweeney may be willing to part with the top package to secure a future center who can bolster his lineup.
