Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand did not hold back following their 8-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets and called out the entire team.

The Bruins took a big step back in their game on Tuesday against the Jets. They were riding a four game win streak, and had momentum going into the game, but the Jets were able to stop them, and take the Bruins down by a lopsided score of 8-1.

It was a terrible night for everyone, the Bruins kept taking penalties, had a lot of defensive breakdowns, and were not able to finish their chances against the reining Vezina Trophy winner in Connor Hellebuyck.

Jeremy Swayman had the worst performance of his career against the jets, allowing a career-worst of eight goals against on 35 shots.

According to 98.5 The Sports Hub's Ty Anderson, Tuesday game was the first time a Boston Bruins goaltender has allowed eight goals in a single game since Dan Vladar did it back in April of 2021, and was just the fifth time this has happened since 2003.

«You got to stay sharp [for] 60 minutes, and they punished us,» Swayman said postgame. «It's not acceptable, and we had to move forward, and luckily, we have the group to do it.»

After the game, Brad Marchand was asked if Tuesday's loss was a night where you feel for your goaltender, considering Joe Sacco ended up leaving Swayman in net.

Here is what Marchand had to say:

«Not really,» Marchand responded. «Everyone had a bad night. He was part of it. He's not singled out. I don't think anyone can look themselves in the mirror and say that they had a good game. So, he's part of the group. He's part of the bad loss.»

Swayman had allowed multiple terrible goals that he would definitely like to have back. The Boston Bruins let the Jets score three power play goals, but Swayman struggled 5-on-5 as well and gave up five goals at even strength despite the Jets only having five high-danger chances in 48 minutes.

«Some of the goals that I let in, I know I can stop them,» Swayman said postgame. «And that's something that I hold myself as a standard, and when you let those in, it's not a great feeling. I want to make sure that that doesn't happen again and staying sharp and playing my game. I know I can stop those goals. So that's what I'm going to do and push forward.»

Things were looking good for Swayman as he was turning his season around for the Bruins before this game, but he took a massive step back.

Now the Bruins are focusing on the Seattle Kraken who they will face Thursday night, and there is a good chance Joonas Korpisalo will get the start for the Bruins.

«It's the NHL - any team can beat anyone on any given night, and tonight we didn't use our momentum that we built,» Swayman said. «It's gonna allow us to do it again. I know that it's not a good feeling right now, but I know that this group can do that, and that's exactly what we're gonna do.

«We got four more games this road trip. We're gonna take one game at a time, and I'm excited for that.»
