With NHL training camps still a few weeks away, Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy is making the most of his time by keeping an eye on other sports, especially football. Hailing from Long Island, McAvoy has always been a loyal New York Giants fan.

However, McAvoy couldn't help but cringe as he watched the Giants suffer a humiliating 40-0 defeat in their season opener against the Dallas Cowboys. But the real twist came when the New York Jets took a devastating hit the next night. Jets' quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles tendon just four plays into his debut with the team.

During an interview with ESPN reporter Greg Wyshynski, who is a diehard Jets fan, McAvoy didn't mince words when discussing the state of New York football after Week 1.

"My Giants might just be broken," McAvoy lamented. "That's the kind of loss that breaks you. You're like, 'Should we even be in this league?' That broke my heart.

"But honestly, you guys (the Jets) are f---ed."

While Jets head coach Robert Saleh has tried to maintain a positive outlook after Rodgers' injury, McAvoy, like many football enthusiasts, has reservations about the team's prospects. Despite a recent overtime victory against the Buffalo Bills, the Jets face an uphill battle with Zach Wilson as their starting quarterback. Wilson has a track record of 16 touchdown passes and 19 interceptions in 23 career games and faced benchings in the previous season.

As the NFL season unfolds, McAvoy will be among the Boston fans eagerly rooting against the Jets when the New England Patriots face them at MetLife Stadium in Week 3.
