The New York Rangers scratched Chris Kreider last night, as the team takes on their Metropolitan Division Rivals, the New Jersey Devils. Is Chris Kreider on the trade block?

This was the first time the Rangers have scratched Kreider, since a few scratches in 2017 and 2022. Those were in effect precautionary, and the last time he was scratched out of the lineup for reasons we're seeing now was his rookie year in 2013-2014.

Could this be an indication of something bigger happening with the Rangers lifer? Kreider has only ever put on the Rangers jersey during his NHL career.

This season we've only seen him post 12 points( 11 G, 1 A) after three straight seasons of 30+ goal production.

A brutal decline for one of the Rangers' most reliable forwards, in 2024-2025.

He's averaging 17:26 per game, his lowest figure since 2020-21, and has three points in 11 games since Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reported on Nov. 25 that the Rangers were dangling him and now former captain Jacob Trouba in trade talks.

With Trouba the 2nd last Ranger to be traded, it appears that GM Don Sweeney could use this healthy scratch as an opportunity to open a dialogue with Chris Drury about a trade.

The roster freeze for the NHL will end on December 28th, and while no official moves can be made, the plan could be set in motion for Kreider to be moved in March.

Back in 2020, this was a trade Blueshirt Banter proposed:

The Rangers send Chris Kreider to the Boston Bruins for Jack Studnicka, a 2020 1st round pick, and a 2021 conditional 2nd round pick (becomes a 3rd round pick if the Bruins don't win the Stanley Cup and Kreider doesn't re-sign).

That included a 2nd-rounder, Jack Studnicka, who is no longer a part of the system. But maybe this time around, GM Don Sweeney could include Georgii Merkulov or Matthew Poitras.

Three seasons ago, Kreider led the league in power-play goals with 26, could a fresh start back home kick up his production?

If you were GM Don Sweeney of the Boston Bruins, would you trade for forward Chris Kreider of the New York Rangers?
