The NHL is in shambles, as one "play" is going viral after Nikolai Kovalenko carelessly cross-checked Charlie McAvoy who was attempting to get up off the ice.

On another day when we notice how bad the NHL zebras are, we have footage of the referees ignoring another penalty last night.

This is part and parcel of how bad Gary Bettman and George Parros' NHL is nowadays.

If you check the box score on ESPN's site, you can see the event but instead of a "cross-check" it's counted as a "hit.

What kind of clown-show nonsense is this?

The event happened with 8:10 left in the 3rd period and the penalty never seemed to be called, despite it being caught on camera.

Great job guys!

Despite that, the Bruins would defeat the Colorado Avalanche, 5-3, but a penalty called would've helped solidify the Bruins' win over the now-terrible, Avalanche who are missing Valeri Nichushkin, and Gabriel Landeskog.

«I think that's the best team game we've had so far this year, and I thought it was a complete 60-minute effort,» Bruins coach Jim Montgomery said. «They're a really good team, and they're going to have their moments, but I really liked our poise.»

Jim Montgomery may have been impressed with the team's efforts, but another weakness in his abilities has been exposed, along with the Bruins video coaches. Where were they?

A moment like this deserves to live in infamy for the NHL, the Avalanche, Nikolai Kovalenko, and the incompetent referees.

McAvoy registered 1 block, and 1 shot for the night against the Avalanche with 22:59 time on ice last night.
