Devastating news just struck former Toronto Maple Leafs captain John Tavares following an announcement.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are dealing with a bunch of injuries right now, and they just got hit with another one, their former captain John Tavares is now injured due to a hit from Montreal Canadiens forward Michael Pezzetta.

The start of preseason has not been ideal for the Toronto Maple Leafs, 3 out of the 4 coe members have been either sidelined with injures, or dealing with some. Auston Matthews is currently out with a undisclosed upper-body injury that is rumoured to be minor.

William Nylander took a shin to the head during Thursday's game after his own teammate knocked him down, causing him to leave the game, and he did not return.

And today John Tavares was absent from their skate after taking a hit from Michael Pezzetta during their game on Thursday against the Montreal Canadiens.

John Tavares spoke out about his injury after their win on Thursday against the Montreal Canadiens, and he stated that he wasn't feeling comfortable, and that's why Craig Berube did not play him much for the rest of the game.

Tavares on being limited to just two shifts in the third period.
"My leg was getting pretty stiff from the hit I took there in the first. It wasn't so bad afterwards but kind of throughout the second and especially in the third it just got really, really stiff and I didn't have much. I told Craig I was just going to keep him short, but I think he just determined to give me the rest of the night off."

Today it was confirmed that John Tavares will be out with a lower-body injury, along with Calle Jarnkrok, and Alex Steeves who is also listed as day-to-day.

The following players will not skate today and are listed as day-to-day:

F John Tavares (lower body)
F Alex Steeves (lower body)
F Calle Järnkrok (lower body)

The preseason has been taking a toll on a lot of teams, even the Boston Bruins. With the season right around the corner, hopefully some of these players are back!
