Don Sweeney Makes a Unexpected Announcement

Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney made several roster moves on November 1:

Defenseman Matt Grzelcyk has been placed on long-term injured reserve.
Forward Jakub Lauko is now on injured reserve.

The team has called up defensemen Mason Lohrei, Ian Mitchell, and Parker Wotherspoon from Providence.

Lohrei, 22, has played seven games with Providence this season, earning four assists. Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 211 pounds, he appeared in 40 games for Ohio State University in the 2022-23 season, accumulating four goals and 28 assists.

Lohrei, originally drafted by Boston in the second round (58th overall) of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, hails from Verona, Wisconsin.

Mitchell, 24, has played two games with Boston this season, securing one assist. He also participated in two AHL games with Providence, contributing one assist.

Standing at 6-foot and weighing 192 pounds, Mitchell has competed in 84 NHL games between Boston and Chicago, amassing four goals and 13 assists.

The St. Albert, Alberta native was originally drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round (57th overall) of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.

Wotherspoon, 26, has taken part in six games with Providence this season, with one assist to his name. Measuring at 6-foot-1 and weighing 195 pounds, he has played in 299 AHL games with Providence, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, and Bridgeport Islanders, accumulating 22 goals and 87 assists.

Wotherspoon has also made 12 NHL appearances, registering one assist. The Surrey, British Columbia native was originally drafted by the New York Islanders in the fourth round (112th overall) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
