Recently the Toronto Maple Leafs acquired former Boston Bruins defenseman Matt Benning in a trade with the San Jose Sharks where the Leafs traded Timothy Liljegren.
Now the Toronto Maple Leafs have just made a surprising move with Benning not long after acquiring him, and his career officially hit rock bottom.
Just days after the trade happened there was rumours that the Toronto Maple Leafs were looking to move on from Benning as they have no room for him, and aren't really a fan of his game, and the Leafs are looking to do exactly that.
Although the Leafs aren't trading him they have placed him on waivers Monday afternoon, making him available for any team to acquire him for free.
Matt Benning has not had a lot of success in the NHL, but he has played over 400 NHL games in his career, and he could be a solid, and cheap depth option for a lot of teams.
Benning played seven games with the San Jose Sharks before being traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs, in those games he has 0 points, along with being a -5 on the year so far.
Benning did not play any games with the Toronto Maple Leafs organization, and it doesn't look like he is going to either.
