Don Cherry just issued a shocking statement on Remembrance day during the anniversary of his firing from Hockey Night in Canada.

Today marks the fifth year anniversary of Don Cherry's firing from his position on Hockey Night in Canada, where he was the beloved host of Coach's Corner.

The reason for Cherry's firing in 2019 was due to a long rant he went on regarding the poppy and remembrance day, he stated that Canadians should purchase and wear a poppy in order to honour sacrifices that were made by Canadian soldiers during the two World Wars, and other events that happened in Canadian history.

If you have not see this rant by Don Cherry you can view it down below:

Even though this rant is ultiamtely what costed him his job on Hockey Night in Canada, Don Cherry never released an apology, and still stands by the message he sent during this rant.

Sunday night, the night before Remembrance day, Don Cherry released a new podcast where he made it clear how important it should be and is for Canadians to show support and respect to the soldiers who sacrificed everything so we could have the freedom we do today.

"I just want to talk about the poppy," said Cherry on his most recent podcast Sunday night. "I just wish everybody would buy a poppy. One poppy. Give a dollar."

In the podcast, Don Cherry's son reminded him that it's been 5 years since the original rant went viral, and this is what Cherry had to say about it:

"5 years ago?" asked Cherry sounding surprised. "Seems like a long time ago, 5 years eh?"

No matter how you feel regarding Don Cherry's famous rant he went on that ended up costing him his job, he was just trying to show his support to the soldiers and make people realize how easy it is to show your support for them.
