Former Boston Bruins defenseman Matt Irwin has come out of retirement according to a recent announcement.

According to a recent announcement, former Boston Bruins defenseman Matt Irwin will be coming out of retirement to play in a tournament.

The announcement revealed that Matt Irwin has been named to Team Canada's roster for the Spengler Cup that will take place in Davos, Switzerland.

The tournament is set to begin on December 26th and will go until the 31st, and Irwin will look to help Team Canada win the tournament for the first time since 2019.

Matt Irwin played 461 games in his NHL career and was apart of six different organizations including the San Jose Sharks, Boston Bruins, Nashville Predators, Anaheim Ducks, Buffalo Sabres, and Washington Capitals.

Matt Irwin was not drafted to the NHL but was signed to a contract by the San Jose Sharks, where he would begin his NHL career.

Eventually Irwin would end up playing for the Boston Bruins briefly as he would only appear in two games with the organization during the 2015-16 season.

In his 461 career NHL games, Irwin went on to post 25 goals, 93 points, and 719 hits.

The 37-year-old played a full season with the Abbotsford Canucks last year in the American Hockey League where he had five goals, 16 points and a plus-2 rating in 65 games.
