The NHL and Gary Bettman may change a rule that would affect the Boston Bruins and ever other NHL team after the way the Rangers handled the recent Trouba trade.

There was quite a bit of drama that happened after the New York Rangers traded Jacob Trouba, and there has been a lot of talk in the hockey community with the way it happened.

The captain at the time was traded to the Anaheim Ducks, and it is assumed that the Ducks were on his no-trade list.

Elliotte Friedman, the most trusted NHL insider states on Hockey Night in Canada last night that players in the league were bothered that the Rangers found a loop-hole and were able to basically get rid of Trouba's no-trade clause.

From Elliotte Friedman from last night:

"What bothered the players to a large degree was if you can't be traded to certain teams, why should you be allowed to go to those teams on waivers?"

Elliotte Friedman went on to also say that he believes that the player association will try to fix this issue in the upcoming CBA negotiations.

"I think what they are gonna ask the players association to do is have a conversation in the upcoming CBA negotiations where maybe there should just be one form of protection. If you want to give me partial protection then I can't go to this team at all, it shouldn't be a trade or it shouldn't be waivers."

There is no point in having a no-trade clause if the team can just place the player on waivers and lose him for nothing, and Friedman is stating that players want to protect themselves from these types of situations.

The CBA have another year until a new one needs to be signed as the current one doesn't expire until September of 2026. Negotiations are set to start in early 2025 though.
