It's becoming clear that the Boston Bruins and Jake Guentzel may not transpire as his current team the Carolina Hurricanes are doing their best to lock up this elite forward.

It was reported by Chris Johnston that Guentzel and the Carolina Hurricanes appear to be getting closer to a new contract as he stated they have put a very good foot forward in negotiations.

There has been some hope that Carolina would be able to retain him after trading for him at the deadline and it sounds as though they've put a pretty good foot forward in negotiations.

Carolina just went through a major shaekup in their front office as long time GM and president Don Waddell stepped down and became the new man in charge in Columbus.

Guentzel was part of a major trade that happened on March 8th when he was sent to the hurricanes in exchange for Michael bunting, 2 prospects and the rights to Cruz Lucius along with the conditional first round pick and a conditional fifth round pick in 2024.

Meanwhile, the Bruins are preparing for unrestricted free agency as they continue to evaluate their team let's see who is on the market on and after July 1st. A top six scorer is certainly high on general manager Don Sweeney's list as through these playoffs and through most of the season, the Bruins had a difficult time scoring more than three goals a game.

Much could change between now and July 1st and even if the Hurricanes have put their best foot forward, it doesn't necessarily mean he will sign with the Hurricanes.
