News outlets and pundits like the Bruins network feel that Debrusk is worth the overpayment compared to losing him outright as the team continues to sort out who they would like to keep and who they would like to let go during the offseason.
He is completing his two-year deal that was worth $8 million holding a $4 million cap hit AAV and many feel that he will seek a raise as he showed to be a playoff performer having played thirteen games and scoring five goals with six assists for 11 points.
This season was a lower production season as he only scored nineteen goals through 80 games when in 2022-2023, he had 27 goals over 64 games. Head coach Jim Montgomery has changed some philosophy over the past couple years, and it clearly has not resonated well with Debrusk.
Whether a change of scenery would be better for him or hoping to re-sign with his hometown team, it's certain that several teams will be calling his agent to see if they could sign him to a long-term deal.
