He explained to new co host Kyle Bukauskas that one source states that the Bruins do not disbelieve in the goaltender's abilities, they feel that he has not had enough time in the NHL to warrant such a high contract as he's only played 132 games.
It's well known across the NHL that the Boston Bruins have had the best tandem in the league but this tandem has stunted some of Swayman's starts which has not bode well for his contract discussions. He had gone through arbitration last contract and vowed that he would not do this a second time and has let his agent control the discussions who happens to be Lewis Gross.
Swayman has gone out on a limb to make his case for the bigger contract as he feels that he is ready to take the next step along with being a student of business. During a recent interview he has told the host but he understands his position, what are the comparable and what he needs to do to help other goaltenders achieve contracts in the future.
Friedman stated that the likely number that Swayman hopes to achieve is modeled around the Charlie McAvoy contract which sits at 9.5 million per season.
Friedman feels that Swayman has what it takes, and that poor leverage seems to be in his corner but until anything changes it all falls on to the Boston Bruins ownership.
