The Boston Bruins currently sit first in the NHL with a 44-8-5 record, a nine-point lead over the second-place Hurricanes and a whopping 14-point gap over Toronto for the Atlantic Division lead.

The team is on pace for 133 points through 57 games, which would beat the current record held by the 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens (132). Not only that, but they're also on pace for 63 wins, which would surpass the league record of 62 in a season.

Brad Marchand recently sat down with Greg Wyshynski of ESPN to discuss how the Bruins feel about the potential of breaking records, and his answer is exactly what you'd expect. As per Wyshynski:

''People have talked a lot about some of these records, that we could potentially hit or we have hit. Nobody cares about those in this room. We could care less about any of these regular-season records. Because they really don't mean anything.''

Marchand is 100% correct. Just look at the 2018-19 Tampa Bay Lightning who became the first team in over 20 years to record 62 wins, tying the 1995-96 Detroit Red Wings. Unfortunately, all that led to one of the biggest upsets in NHL history when the Columbus Blue Jackets swept the Lightning in the first round.

Since 1985, only eight President's Trophy winners have gone on the win the Stanley Cup, with the most recent being the 2013 Chicago Blackhawks (sorry).

And Boston knows that:

''Before we were going through this season, if you asked any of the guys on this team who owned any of those records, nobody would know, because nobody cares. Because it's not about the regular season. As soon as somebody brings it up, it's in one ear and out the other.''

Unlike the 2019 Lightning, this Bruins team has been there and done that. The veteran leadership of Marchand, Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci have won the Stanley Cup, along with newcomer Dmitry Orlov (2018 with Capitals).

Not to mention, younger players Charlie McAvoy, Brandon Carlo, David Pastrnak, Jake Debrusk, Connor Clifton and Matthew Grzelcyk were all on the 2019 team that went all the way to the Finals.
